Prime Minister Theresa May plans to meet with French president Emmanuel Macron in France on Friday to discuss her Brexit plan.
She has been invited to Macron’s summer retreat at Fort Bregancon in Southern France.
Mrs May has been trying to raise awareness and support for her Brexit plan amongst other EU leaders instead of leaving it to the heads of Brussels officials.
Newly appointed Brexit secretary Jeremy Hunt has urged France and Germany to speak with the Chief Brexit negotiator of the EU, Michel Barnier, and “send a strong signal” to the European Commission in order to reach a “pragmatic and sensible outcome”..
As part of the UK cabinet ministers’ duty to seel the prime minister’s Brexit plan to other EU nations, Jeremy Hunt plans to visit Vienna on Wednesday.
Hunt has also warned that the chance of a no deal Brexit is “increasing by the day”.
In an interview with the Evening Standard, Mr Hunt stated:
“The probability of no deal is increasing by the day until we see a change of approach from the European Commission who have this view that they just need to wait and Britain will blink.That is just a profound misunderstanding of us as a nation. There is real chance of no deal by accident. Everyone is assuming, no, no, no, this will never happen. Well, actually, it could.”
The official leave date of the UK from the EU is the 29th of March 2019 yet the two sides have not reached an agreement on the nature of their future relationship.
