Security Minister Reveals Investigation into Football Money-Laundering is Taking Place

Security Minister Ben Wallace today told the Treasury Select committee that at least one football club is being investigated after claims of money-laundering.

The sports industry “is as susceptible as anything else” according to reports from the minister’s comments at today’s meeting of the Treasury Select Committee.

Whilst being questioned by the committee today, the MP stated:

“I know of (a) professional football club or clubs under investigation.

“I couldn’t reveal how many and what they are, for that is an operational matter.”

Investigations into money laundering can take several years and so the club or clubs may not be revealed for some time yet.

Ben Wallace is a conservative MP and sits for the Wyre & Preston North constituency whilst acting as Minister of State for Security at the Home Office.
