PM still has ‘full confidence’ in Boris Johnson

UK Prime Minister Theresa May still has ‘full confidence’ in Boris Johnson, despite his blistering attack on the government’s Brexit negotiating strategy revealed in a leaked recording.

A Downing Street spokesperson refused to comment on the leaked recording, in which Mr Johnson claimed that Donald Trump could do a better job on Brexit than the Government, but insisted Theresa May, who is at a G7 summit and her whole cabinet are “working hard to deliver on the will of the people”

The audio recording, leaked to website Buzzfeed revealed Mr Johnson saying “Imagine Trump doing Brexit. He’d go in bloody hard. There’d be all sorts of breakdowns, all sorts of chaos. Everyone would think he’d gone mad. But actually you might get somewhere. It’s a very, very good thought.”

The leaked recording comes from a private dinner Mr Johnson attended with Tory activists. Mr Johnson admitted there could be a “meltdown” after Brexit. His remarks have been condemned by pro-Remain MPs, who denounced the foreign secretary as “shameless” and a “disgraceful charlatan”.
