The head of Whitehall’s spending watchdog Sir Amyas Morse warns that the extra money announced by Theresa May is not enough.
The NHS needs greater financial support in order to meet the changing needs of the growing UK population.
During the week of the NHS’s 70th birthday, Sir Amyas Morse suggested that a new vision should be developed with the agreement of all those involved in the political landscape of the UK in order to set up a health care system with a united vision.
Sir Morse’s intervention stemmed from when the head of the NHS, Simon Stevens, stated that extensive planning had begun in the case of a no-deal Brexit occurring which would affect the availability of vital medicines.
On the NHS’s 70th anniversary, the prime minister announced an increase in the NHS’s annual spending by 3.4% by 2023/24. However, Morse said that the increase in spending would not be sufficient to meet the needs of the ever-growing population of the UK and their changing needs.
