The requirement to ‘stay at home’ in Wales has today been replaced with ‘stay local’ as lockdown measures begin to ease in the country.
Wales currently has a 7-day Coronavirus rate of 42 cases per 100,000 people – a rate not seen as low since mid-September 2020. On Friday, 40,200 people in Wales received a Coronavirus vaccine – the highest daily total in the country to date.
From today in Wales, up to four people from no more than two households can meet outdoors together to socialise, including in gardens. Outdoor sports facilities, including tennis courts and golf courses, have also started to reopen. Indoor leisure facilities remain closed.
Also under the easing of restrictions, single designated visitors can make indoor care home visits from today.
Announcing the lockdown easements on Friday, First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford said the Welsh Government would be taking a ‘phased approach’ to reopening each sector of the economy. Next week, some restrictions will start to be lifted on non-essential retail and more pupils will be able to return to the classroom for the first time in months.
The ‘stay local’ rule which has come in today is only intended to be temporary and could be lifted at the end of the month if conditions allow. Generally, people are being advised that ‘local’ is a five-mile radius from their home, however, in some locations, this may differ and people are being urged to use common sense.
