Government Communities Secretary Sajid Javid has told the BBC he was “absolutely committed” to reducing homelessness, as a new fund of £30million is announced looking to help rough sleepers in the UK.
The Government claims new measures will aim to “break the homelessness cycle once and for all”
The number of people living on the streets in the last 7 years in the UK has grown, and the Government has said a team of experts will now focus solely on this issue.
In Autumn 2017, 4,751 people were counted or estimated to be sleeping on the streets, a worrying figure that is 15% higher than the previous year.
The Labour Party has dismissed the new fund, calling it a “pitiful response to a national crisis”.
