The public spending watchdog, the National Audit Office, has stated that UK drivers may have to purchase a permit in order to drive on EU roads.
In NAO’s report, they stated that this might be a possibility in the case of a no-deal situation between the UK and the EU. If no mutual agreement is made, then drivers may have to pay for the permit which will cost around £5.50.
The report also showed that the UK’s Department of Transport has been drafting up a deal and has begun to negotiate with the EU on the matter but it is yet to be completed.
The Department of Transport has also said that the reason for this delay is the complex and challenging situation that is Brexit so there may be a risk of the deal or agreement to not be completed in time for the official leave date of the UK from the EU in March 2019.
