New “Stronger Towns Fund” described as “embarrassing and shambolic”

Downing Street announced a “Stronger Towns Fund” on Sunday which would see £1bn divided between various regions and less prosperous parts of England.

It is thought that the fund was designed to gain Theresa May support she is currently lacking for her Brexit deal. However, the new fund has been branded as “embarrassing” and as a “failure”, with the amount to be distributed being especially criticised.

Anna Turley MP told Sky News that some areas had been “left behind and held back by lack of investment” for many years.

She said, “The idea that they can now just throw this as a last-ditch desperate attempt to cross the floor and vote for Theresa May’s deal is embarrassing and shambolic and really undermines democracy.”

The UK is due to leave the EU on the 29 March. However, that might change after votes next week on both Mrs May’s Brexit Deal and the option of a No Deal exit.
