Lockdown to ease further in Scotland from 17 May

Coronavirus restrictions will be relaxed in most of Scotland from 17 May, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has announced.

Most of the country will be moved down from Level 3 restrictions to Level 2 on Monday, which allows up to four people from two households to meet indoors in a private home. In addition, pubs will be able to re-open indoors, on the same day that restrictions are also being eased in England.

Cinemas, bingo halls and other venues will also be able to re-open indoors, though nightclubs will remain closed.

The Moray area is set to remain under Level 3 restrictions, following an outbreak of the virus.

The planned lockdown easements in most of Scotland come as the current 7-day case rate in the country is at just 21.1 cases per 100,000 people.
