Mental Health Awareness Week – using music to help manage our mental health

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, so we spoke to London-based singer and songwriter Asher Knight about how people can use music to help them manage their mental health.

Asher, 22, has performed in some of the UK’s most rewarding venues supporting several high brow artists. Asher is an inspirational mental health speaker to audiences, especially to young people and he wants to help highlight how music can help people cope through mental health struggles.

Mental health problems are a growing public health concern, both globally and in the UK. Measuring the prevalence of mental health problems is difficult, but research has suggested that nearly half of all adults think that they have had a diagnosable mental health condition at some stage in their life.

Speaking to Asher, we learnt more about his story, his new single ‘Without Us’, how he is coping during the lockdown and how he thinks music can help those with mental health struggles. You can watch the conversation above or on YouTube.
