Trump Enters North Korea
This weekend, US President Donald Trump made history as he became the first sitting US President to enter North Korea. Following an invitation on Twitter, the US President talked to Kim Jong-un before taking 10 paces into North Korea. They then stepped into South Korea to speak to South Korean president Moon Jae-in.
As well as the symbolic walk into North Korea, the leaders held hour-long talks, agreeing to set up negotiating teams to continue discussions. Expect to hear more about these events and future discussions in the coming days and weeks.
Battle For Top EU Jobs
European Union leaders began another marathon session on Sunday aimed at seeking a breakthrough in discussions on who should be picked for a list of top EU jobs. The EU is looking to appoint a new Commission President, heads of Parliament, the European Central Bank and also the foreign affairs service. Depending on the outcome of talks, discussions could continue throughout the coming week.
Conservative Leadership Race
The Conservative Leadership Race continues this week with more hustings for Conservative Party members. Hustings this week will take place in the areas of Yorkshire & Humber on Thursday, followed by the North East and Scotland on Friday and the East Midlands and Wales on Saturday.
Conservative Party members will start to receive their postal ballots from this weekend, with the deadline for voting at the week ending Sunday 21 July.
Elections
Two elections are due to take place this week – the Greek legislative election will be held on Sunday, with all 300 seats in the Hellenic Parliament to be contested.
The election comes after Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras announced on 26 May 2019 that a snap election would be held following his defeat in the EU elections in Greece and the also recent local elections. Opinion polls have been showing a likely outcome of the New Democracy (ND) party as the largest party.

The party is a centre-right party and was last in government before the 2015 election, since which it has been the main opposition party.
This week will also see the Algerian presidential election on Thursday.
