UK Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, has clarified his views on a no-deal Brexit occurrence by stating that Britain would survive however, it would be a “big mistake for Europe”.
Hunt told ITV News on Thursday that a no-deal Brexit would be a “mistake” which the UK would “regret for generations”.
Shortly after, he tweeted that the UK should only sign a deal that “respects the referendum result”.
Tory backbencher Nigel Evans, stated: “We don’t need any lectures from Remainers.”
“He’s got his own views. He voted remain. The prime minister needs to ensure, as she promised, that Brexiteers are in charge of our leaving the European Union.”
This comes in light of recent Brexit talks held by the UK and various EU officials and growing concerns by many, that the chance of a no-deal Brexit is impending.
The UK is due to leave the European Union in March 2019.
Danish finance minister, Kristian Jensen, told the Today programme on Friday that the prime minister’s Chequer’s plan was “realistic” and could result in “good negotiations”
Latvia’s foreign minister has stated his concerns about the Brexit deal as time seems to be “running out”.
“… We’ve got to strike a deal that is positive for both the UK and EU.”
