A eurosceptic majority looks likely for Italy after the 5 Star Movement and Lega parties together reached about 49% of the vote in the Italian election. Together, with the right-wing Fdl party they would reach well over 50% needed for a majority.
However, this is only one potential way in which the 5 Star Movement could try to form a Government. As yet, the 5 Star Movement has not committed to doing deals with anyone. Uncertainty is almost inevitable, as it could be weeks until a Government is officially formed.
The Euro fell and turned negative last night as the exit polls came out of Italy.
In the 2013 elections, the Five Star Movement secured a quarter of the votes. The part says its five main concerns are the protection of the environment, public transport, free access to water for everyone, sustainable development and the right to internet access. However, the M5S is also anti-globalization, anti-establishment, anti-free trade, euroskeptic and against the vaccination of children, which it believes causes autism.
