Delivering political coverage in an understandable lingo

Ahoy, Me Hearties!

We would likely to publicly apologise for our involvement in Talk Like A Pirate Day on Thursday 19 September – we’ve been learning the Pirate lingo all week, and our tweets are being transformed for the day.

While not usually written in the pirate lingo, some coverage of political news elsewhere can often be lengthy, confusing and difficult to understand. Politics is becoming increasingly important, but at the same time, it is also becoming more and more confusing. Whether it’s jargonated or biased coverage or old and confusing procedures in Parliament, it may sometimes feel like you need to learn a whole new lingo just to get a grasp of what’s really going on in the world.

At The Speaker, we’re committed to delivering impartial, understandable and accessible coverage of the top political news stories from the UK and beyond. We work to explain politics and the jargon that can exist within it.

Reading our tweets today might give you the giggles, or it may make you wonder what on earth is going on. Today we’re showing how a different lingo can change both perspectives and experiences. Confusing terms naturally leave people confused, uninformed and left asking questions – questions which may often never be fully answered. At The Speaker, we aim to deliver content that is understandable first time, but if you are confused, we’re here to answer your questions.

In times where politics has never been more important, it’s key that everyone can understand what’s going on and have their say. For the top political news stories in a lingo understandable by the wider public, it’s right here at The Speaker.
