Briefing Thursday 4th October

Five police officers have been shot in South Carolina. Two city police officers and three Florence Country sheriffs’ deputies have been shot and according to reports one of the officers has been killed. The suspect is now in custody, with people being asked to stay away whilst an active investigation progresses.

More than 1400 have now been confirmed dead in Indonesia following an earthquake and tsunami that hit the island of Sulawesi. In the most effected city of Palu, witnesses reported the ground literally liquifying beneath their feet. Poor infrastructure on the island has made recovery difficult, with many people forced to steal supplies from local farms.

Theresa May’s speech at the Conservative party conference has made headlines after the Prime Minister danced onto the stage to Abba’s ‘dancing queen’. The Prime Minister used the speech to attack what she called the ‘Jeremy Corbyn Party’, whilst also using the speech to promise that the end of austerity ‘is in sight’.

And in other news,

Fans of Fifa 19 will be rejoiced to hear that Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech’s helmet has been removed during the negotiation cutscene on the game. Fans previously mocked the game for Cech wearing his protective helmet during this segment of the game. Developers have now replaced the helmet with a tie, at the goalkeepers’ request.
