Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab refused to deny the reports of the Government plans to stockpile food in preparation for a ‘no deal’ Brexit. Mr Raab also did not dispute claims that a motorway in Kent could become a ‘lorry park’ if tight and stringent customs checks are implemented by the EU. He was explaining that the UK will stand ready for ‘any and every eventuality’ on the BBC Andrew Marr show. He continued to outline how the government was making sure there was an extra allocation of money, £3 billion according to Mr Raab, and more operational staff ready to ensure the UK is prepared for all outcomes.
The new foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt warns of “unintended geopolitical consequences” in Brexit negotiations. Mr Hunt stated that a potential yet accidental no-deal Brexit may be imminent if Brexit negotiators do not change their approach. Germany’s minister of foreign affairs, Heiko Maas has stated that he wants the UK to leave the EU with a deal and not a “disorderly Brexit”.
Donald Trump tweeted the Iranian President during the middle of the night on Monday, threatening to cause ‘consequences the likes of which few throughout history have ever suffered before’. This twitter tirade is the latest outburst in growing tensions between the nations since Trump withdrew from the Iran Nuclear Deal.
