Briefing Thursday 25th October

Apple and Samsung have been fined by the Italian courts for installing software to slow older devices. Apple were fined €10 million, whilst Samsung were forced to pay €5 million. The Italian authorities stated that both companies caused serious problems for users by encouraging people to download software that would prevent their phones from running properly.

The US stock market has taken another dive, largely wiping out the gains made throughout 2018. The Nasdaw dropped 4.4% on Wednesday, the largest single-day drop since 2011, whilst the DOW Jones dropped 608 points. Experts have indicated that the drop is caused by a long overdue correction after months of solid growth.

A number of bombs have been mailed to prominent Democrats in what appears to be a large orchestrated domestic terror attack. Bombs were sent to the home of George Soros, Barack Obama, the Clinton’s, Eric Holder, Maxine Waters and the CNN offices, along with other smaller news outlets. All of the targets have been victims of Donald Trump’s rhetoric, although it is unknown as to the exact motive at this point. Luckily nobody has been injured by the explosive devices thus far.

And in other news,

Friends star David Schwimmer has responded to a lookalike that is being sought by police in connection to the theft. Blackpool police put out a CCTV image of a man resembling Schwimmer who stole beer from a local shop. Schwimmer was in New York at the time of the incident, but it hasn’t stopped the jokes, with Schwimmer even posting a video of himself ‘stealing’ a crate of beer in a New York store.
