Briefing Saturday 3rd November

Brazil’s new far-right president-elect Jair Bolsonaro has confirmed his intention to move the nation’s embassy to Jerusalem. Bolsonaro confirmed the policy decision in a tweet, as well as commenting to an Israeli newspaper. This is likely to be an unpopular move amongst the international community given that 128 of the 193 UN member states condemned Americas decision to move the embassy.

A San Francisco 49ers cheerleader has become the first cheerleader to take a knee during the national anthem. She joined the protest against the treatment of black Americans by the police and has made history in doing so. It was while playing for the 49ers in 2016 that Colin Kaepernick first took the knee which started a national campaign before he was de facto barred from the league.

The US economy has been booming according to a new jobs report. Unemployment now sits at 3.7%, the lowest in half a century, whilst wage growth has been at 3.1% on the previous year. However, underemployment and productivity remain low, whilst the stock market’s faltering in recent weeks has stoked fears that a downturn is on the horizon.

And in other news,
