More than 15 million people in the UK have been given their first dose of a Coronavirus vaccine, the Government’s vaccine deployment minister has confirmed.
In a tweet on Sunday afternoon, Nadhim Zahawi said;
“15,000,000! Amazing team ♥ We will not rest till we offer the vaccine to the whole of phase1 the 1-9 categories of the most vulnerable & all over 50s by end April and then all adults”
The UK had targetted offering a first Coronavirus vaccine dose to everyone in the top four priority groups identified by the JCVI by 15 February. The top four priority groups include everyone aged 70 and over, clinically extremely vulnerable people, frontline health and social care workers, care home residents and staff.
The surpassing of 15 million first doses means the Government is likely to announce shortly that it has met its target.
From Monday, over 65s and clinically vulnerable people will be eligible for the vaccine and some people in these cohorts have already been contacted to book an appointment.
