COVID-19: Minute’s silence to be held to commemorate key workers who have died

A minute’s silence will be held across the UK this morning to commemorate the key workers who have died after contracting the COVID-19 Coronavirus.

The tribute will start at 11:00 (BST).

More than 100 NHS and care staff have died so far after contracting the virus, while many transport and other key workers have also died.

Transport for London has said its network will be brought to a halt for the silence, with passengers asked to join staff in commemorating those who have sadly died.

On Monday, the government announced that families of front-line NHS and social care staff in England who have died after contracting the virus would be offered a £60,000 compensation payment.
