Run for Heroes smashes fundraising target, so far raising over £5 million

If you’re an Instagram user, the likelihood is that you’ve probably been nominated to take part in a challenge recently.

With people getting bored during the lockdown, some of the challenges are more meaningful than others. However, some of the challenges are having a positive impact in the wider community, such as the exercise challenge encouraged by the organisation ‘Run for Heroes’.

While lockdown restrictions are in place, we are still allowed to participate in daily exercise outside once a day, provided we adhere to social distancing rules. Many people have been using this exercise to go for a run. The Run for Heroes challenge is encouraging people to run 5k, donate £5 to NHS Charities Together and then nominate five friends to complete the same challenge.

The organisers behind the challenge aimed to raise a total of £5,000. However, like many other fundraising initiatives recently, that target has been well and truly smashed. Donations on the challenge’s Virgin Money Giving page now stand at over £5 million. ?

The donations go to support the NHS Charities COVID-19 Urgent Appeal run by NHS Charities Together. NHS Charities Together is the umbrella organisation for the NHS’ official charities in the UK, many of which provide extra vital funds to NHS hospitals, mental and community health trusts and other facilities.

If you haven’t been nominated for the challenge yet, you can still get involved – just run 5km, donate £5 and nominate 5 people on your social media story tagging @Run.For.Heroes.

We’ll be back after our run. 🙂
