Clap for Our Carers campaign encourages Brits to applaud NHS workers

A campaign has been set up encouraging the whole of the UK to applaud the NHS to show support – all at the same time.

The Clap for Our Carers campaign is encouraging Britons to applaud NHS workers from the doorsteps of their homes, gardens, windows and balconies on Thursday, 26 March at 8pm.

The idea behind the campaign is simple – to show appreciation for the doctors, nurses, GPs and all other types of NHS worker who are facing such challenging tasks during this difficult time of the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.

Britons are being encouraged to live stream their participation on social media. Due to the virus, social distancing measures are being advised so members of the public should ensure they stay at least 2m away from others while taking part.

Similar campaigns have taken place in other countries around the world, including in Spain, France and Italy as citizens try to raise spirits amid the pandemic.

The campaign in the UK was quickly backed by many celebrities, including David and Victoria Beckham, Cheryl and Meghan Markle.
