Jair Bolsonaro has been announced as the winner of the Brazilian elections. The former Army Captain has been much maligned by the west for aligning himself with the far right and representing the fascist wing of Brazilian politics. Bolsonaro claimed around 55% of the vote and will assume the presidency on January 1st.

A Sri Lankan Ministers bodyguard opened fire on a group of protesters, killing one and injuring a further two. Sri Lankan Petroleum Minister Arjuna Ranatunga was being confronted by supporters of the president, who was recently ousted when his bodyguard fired at the protesters.

Tributes have been pouring in for the owner and chairman of Leicester City FC, who died on Saturday in a helicopter crash. The helicopter, owned by Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, came down shortly after Leicester’s game with West Ham, killing both pilots, the Leicester chairman and two other individuals.

Lewis Hamilton has secured a fifth Formula One title today after finishing fourth in the Mexico Grand Prix. Hamilton needed to place in the top 7 to secure his record fifth title. Hamilton is now considered amongst the greatest drivers in F1 history, just two titles short of the record holder Michael Schumacher who currently holds seven.
