Trump’s White House is turning itself in knots trying to find the author of the damaging op-ed in the New York Times. Trump’s aides are now claiming that the author needs to be known for national security reasons despite the fact that nothing within the piece constitutes a crime. Many high profile members of the government have denied being the author including VP Mike Pence and Chief of Staff John Kelly.
More than 200 protesters have been arrested over the last few days while protesting the Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Most of those arrested have been charged with disorderly conduct and fined $50. These protests come from Kavanaugh’s right-wing decisions in the past have created fears that abortion rights could be overturned if he enters the court.
The Swedish general election has left the main blocs effectively tied, with the anti-immigration party making significant gains. Both the ruling centre-left coalition and the centre-right coalitions are at around 40%, with the ruling party marginally ahead. This is likely to result in a significant battle to form a viable coalition and create a government.
