Around 850 people were accidentally detained by the Home Office in the UK between 2012 and 2017.
The UK government has paid £21 million in compensation due to their detainment of people who legally resided in the UK.
Due to some figures that have surfaced from the home affairs select committee earlier this week, 171 cases of mistaken situations of immigration detention during 2015 and 2016 meaning that the compensation payment totalled at around £4.1 million and many more cases in hundreds were found after this.
The documents do not provide information on the people who were wrongfully detained.
Additionally, the document did reveal that bonuses had been paid out to both junior and senior Home Office staff during that period which coincided with targets of enforced removals which had been met.
It has been speculated that some of the individuals who fell victim to this mistake from the Home Office may have been Windrush individuals who were sent to immigration removal centres by mistake.
Sajid Javid, the British home secretary, has promised to release more information next month to outline the number of Windrush individuals who were wrongly deported.
