Donald Trump has tweeted: "We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election. We will never let them do it. Votes cannot be cast after the Polls are closed!" In another tweet, he said he will make a statement and described his performance as a 'big win'.

Mr Trump deleted his tweet and reposted it without the typo. The post claiming that Democrats are trying to 'STEAL' the election has been labelled as disputed and potentially misleading by Twitter.

Biden has said in a statement, "We believe we're on track to win this election "We're going to have to be patient and it ain't over until every ballot is counted. But we're feeling good"

Biden has won California, the state with the most electoral college votes (55). This result continues the long-running theme of California voting for the Democrats since the 1990s.

The Democrats are projected to retain control of the House of Representatives, likely increasing their majority.

All polls have now closed in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi,  Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Washington, D.C.

Most polls have now closed in Texas and Michigan. The remaining polls have now closed in Florida, while Central Time polls have closed in Kansas, North and South Dakota.
