Trump permanently suspended from Twitter

US President Donald Trump has been permanently suspended from Twitter 'due to the risk of further incitement of violence', according to the social media giant.

Mr Trump is famous for his tweets, which have gone far beyond what would usually be expected to be posted by a political leader. Mr Trump has previously used the social media network to promote conspiracy theories and rant about his political opponents.

The outgoing President had earlier been locked out of his account temporarily for 12 hours and publicly warned not to commit further Twitter policy violations, however, Twitter has now announced that he has now been permanently banned from the social media network following a "close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them".

It comes as many feel that Mr Trump incited the violence which took place on Wednesday at the US Capitol during a session to verify Joe Biden's electoral college win in the Presidential election. Mr Trump posted tweets on Wednesday describing people who stormed the Capitol as "patriots".

Twitter has said that two of the President's tweets on Friday had violated its policy on the glorification of violence. Twitter's Saftey Policy reads "You may not threaten violence against an individual or a group of people. We also prohibit the glorification of violence".

Facebook said on Thursday that it had suspended Mr Trump's Facebook and Instagram account indefinitely.

Trump's ban from Twitter comes as leading US politicians including Speaker of the House of Democrats Nancy Pelosi have been calling for the President to be impeached for a second time due to his 'dangerous' actions and his 'unbalanced assault' on the United States and its democracy.
