Biden confirmed, after Capitol building stormed

Joe Biden has been confirmed as the next President of the United States by the Senate, despite an hours-long delay, after Donald Trump supporters attacked the Capitol building and terrorised members of the American government.

Senator Amy Klobuchar announced the confirmation of the Senate vote, standing at a podium in a Senate chamber that just hours before had been rummaged through, had windows smashed, and armed servicemen - weapons drawn - attempting to protect the halls of American democracy.

Donald Trump has since called for an orderly transition, perhaps finally accepting that his words had meaning and that his supporters went too far.

Reports from the United States suggest that throughput the events of last night, four people were killed, with one woman being shot inside the Capitol, the circumstances surrounding the other deaths are not currently known.

Trump supporters outside of the building broke through police lines and entered the Capitol, with Vice President Mike Pence being ushered out of the building and many members of Congress being taken to undisclosed locations

In one of the darkest days in modern American history, democracy eventually prevailed; not before terrorists, egged on by the President, stormed the Capitol, intimidated lawmakers, tore down American flags and hung MAGA and confederate banners in their place.

Democracy prevailed, but when the world was watching, Donald Trump showed his worst instincts and demonstrated how fragile democracy can be.
