The US has announced it plans to impose tariffs on steel and aluminium from the EU starting at midnight.
The UK government has said it is “deeply disappointed” by the decision. The Government has said the UK and close allies lies should be “permanently and fully exempted” from the tariffs.
The plans come after President Trump announced in March that he levy a 25% tariff on imported steel and a 10% tariff on imported aluminium in order to protect national security interests. The European Union and other allies had been exempt from the tariffs until June 1st. Following slow negotiations, the exemptions have not been renewed.
