Twitter account of Katie Hopkins suspended

The Twitter account of controversial media personality Katie Hopkins has been suspended for violations of the social media network’s anti-hate policy.

According to Twitter, the former Apprentice contestant, and former LBC presenter has been temporarily locked out of her account, which has more than one million followers. A spokesperson for Twitter said;

“Keeping Twitter safe is a top priority for us – abuse and harassment have no place on the service.”

“These rules apply to everyone using our service – regardless of the account involved.”

Hopkins has been criticised for her views expressed on the social network before, including over tweets that were claimed to have incited hatred. In his election campaign, US President Donald Trump tweeted to endorse Katie Hopkins after she wrote a newspaper column in the Daily Mail saying Mr Trump should not be demonised.

Twitter have said they are looking into the current situation and are keeping Hopkins updated.
