Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit the UK this weekend, it has been announced.
Downing Street said the visit, to take place on Sunday, would be a chance for Britain and Turkey to show their close relationship.
It is thought that Mr Erdogan will meet the Queen during his three day stopover, though the trip will not be a full state visit.
Mr Erdogan, who has been Turkey’s president for two years, is currently participating in a snap election campaign in the hope of extending his rule for another five years. A spokesperson for Theresa May said the meeting would allow decisions about “issues of shared interest.”
