Transport for London set to be reduced to weekend service

Public Transport in London is set to be reduced to a Saturday and Sunday service over the coming days, according to London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

The move comes after UK Prime Minister advised Britons on Monday against all but essential travel and contact with others.

Reports on Tuesday showed various tube trains and stations near empty as members of the public followed government advice, however other trains and road networks still appeared busy.

Speaking to Sky News, Mr Khan said Transport for London was running a normal service on Tuesday, however, this would be reduced over the coming days and it may be reduced again depending on demand. He said;

“What I don’t want to do is turn public transport off which means nurses, doctors, essential workers can’t reach their place of work.”

Schools also currently remain open in the UK, however many universities have suspended all face-to-face teaching.

23 people have already died from COVID-19 in London.
