Self-referral form for COVID-19 vaccination launched for unpaid carers in Wales

Unpaid carers in Wales who may not be registered as an unpaid carer with their GP are being encouraged to come forward in order to receive their vaccination against COVID-19.

From today, eligible unpaid carers will be able to complete an online form with the health board in which they live or in which their GP is based.

Unpaid carers are eligible for vaccination against COVID-19 as part of priority group 6 if they are the sole or primary carer of someone who is at increased risk of catching coronavirus.

Everyone in priority groups 5 to 6 is expected to be offered vaccination by the middle of April. Unpaid carers who are already registered with their GP do not need to register again.

Discussing the call for unregistered unpaid carers to come forward, Claire Morgan, Director of Carers Wales, said:

“Having put their lives on hold caring for vulnerable people, we know that many unpaid carers will feel relieved to be called for their vaccination. Carers Wales has worked with the Welsh Government on the self-identification process and urges eligible unpaid carers to complete the new online self-referral form as soon as they are able.”

The forms for unpaid carers to register will be made available on the website of each local health board and further information can be found here.
