Abortion laws in Northern Ireland described as "unsustainable" by senior shadow minister

A senior shadow minister, Labour's Jonathan Ashworth has said that women in Northern Ireland "should have the same rights" as those in the rest of Ireland regarding abortion.

The minister said the abortion laws in Northern Ireland were "unsustainable", after the Republic of Ireland overwhelmingly voted to liberalise their strict abortion laws.

Prime Minister Theresa May is now being urged to reform the laws in Northern Ireland, however, this could spark major political problems, as the DUP who support her Government are deeply opposed to reform.
