Nicola Sturgeon vows to ‘restart’ Scottish independence debate

First minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon has vowed to “restart a debate” on Scottish independence over “the next couple of weeks.”

Nicola Sturgeon said she would consider the best timing for a second independence referendum after a Brexit deal is made later this year. In 2014, the ‘No’ side won by 55.3% in the Scottish Independence Referendum.

The First Minister told Peston on Sunday, “Once we get some clarity, which hopefully we will in the autumn of this year, about the Brexit outcome and the future relationship between the UK and the EU then I will consider again this question of the timing of an independence referendum.”

“Over the next couple of weeks we will, I suppose, restart a debate about why independence for Scotland is an opportunity and what those opportunities are.”

Ms Sturgeon had insisted that a second Scottish independence referendum was “on the table” after the Brexit vote, however, such plans were later shelved.

Do you think there should be a second referendum, and would you support Scottish independence? Comment your thoughts.
