New Year’s Eve stabbings in Manchester treated as terror attack

Police have confirmed that the stabbing of three people on New Year’s Eve at Manchester Victoria Station is being treated as a terror-related incident.

Two people remain in hospital after what police have called a “horrific attack” that happened shortly before 9pm ahead of the start of the new year. Two knives were recovered from the scene, and a property is being searched. A man, 25 years of age, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the attack. Three people were taken to hospital, including two members of the public and a police officer. It is thought their injuries were serious but not life-threatening.

Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn have tweeted following the attack and have paid tribute to the emergency services.

The investigation into the attack is continuing.
