New restrictions are being implemented in more parts of the UK from today, as cases of the COVID-19 Coronavirus rise sharply.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced new restrictions for parts of the North West of England, Midlands and West Yorkshire on Friday. Under the new restrictions, people living in certain areas will be banned from meeting others outside of their households inside private homes and gardens. People will be urged to avoid using public transport except for ‘essential reasons’ such as travelling to school and work, and licenced premises will have to close by 10pm each evening.
New restrictions are also being implemented in more parts of Wales which are seeing outbreaks of the virus.
The restrictions come in on the day in which Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce increased restrictions across the country to tackle the Coronavirus pandemic. On Tuesday lunchtime, the PM is expected to tell MPs in the House of Commons that all pubs, bars and restaurants in England will have to close by 10pm each evening from Thursday.
