Lockdown to be tightened in Scotland from Saturday

Lockdown restrictions are to tighten in Scotland from Saturday, it has been announced.

Under new rules, click and collect services will only be allowed for shops selling essential items, including clothing, footwear, homeware, baby equipment and books, but collections must take place outdoors, with staggered appointments setup to avoid queuing. Takeaway customers will also no longer be allowed to queue indoors and takeaway services must operate from a doorway or hatch.

The consumption of alcohol outdoors will also be banned in almost all of Scotland, while rules on work inside private properties will be changed to only allow work for “maintenance, upkeep and functioning” rather than decorating and other work that is deemed non-essential.

The new restrictions come amid concerns over the pressures on the NHS in Scotland. Currently, around 1,794 people are in hospital in Scotland with a confirmed case of COVID-19.
