UK membership of Interrail scheme set to continue after u-turn

On Wednesday, it was announced that UK rail journeys will no longer be covered by Interrail or Eurail passes from January 2020. However, on Thursday, the Rail Delivery Group (RDG) announced a u-turn on this decision after renewed talks with the Eurail Group.

The RDG, who represents UK train operators blamed a dispute with Eurail Group, which manages the Interrail scheme, for the supposed end of membership of the scheme. Since 1972, the interrail pass has allowed European citizens to travel around 31 countries, including the UK, by train on just one ticket.

On Thursday, the RDG said

“Following the strong reaction to news of our departure we and Eurail, the company which runs Interrail, renewed talks.”

“We are pleased to be able to tell passengers that we have reached agreement and will be remaining part of both the Interrail and Eurail passes.”

The decision to pull out of the scheme had been heavily criticised on social media.
