Protests expected across the UK over suspension of Parliament

A day of political protests is expected across the UK on Saturday as thousands express anger over the government’s proroguing of Parliament from mid-September.

Extinction Rebellion climate protests are also expected to continue in the North of England and also take place in Brockwell Park, London. On Friday, Extinction Rebellion caused disruption and blocked one of the UK’s most polluted streets in Machester.

Brexit protests are expected to take place in cities across the UK, with more than 30 events thought to have been planned. Organisers of the #StopTheCoup protests are hoping hundreds of thousands will hit the streets of London, Birmingham and Manchester, as well as other cities and towns across the country.

The government announced earlier this week that Parliament would be suspended from mid-September, sparking anger amongst MPs from across the House of Commons. More than one million have signed a petition trying to overturn the decision and the government now also faces multiple legal challenges against the decision.
