Prime Minister abandons early recess plan for Parliament

Theresa May tabled a motion to discuss Parliament’s early recess on Thursday which would have been five days ahead of the initial plan and it was due to be voted on on Tuesday evening.

After facing a defeat in the Commons on Tuesday where the majority voted for the customs union plan to be implemented if a free-trade deal is not agreed upon- 307 to 301- and after hearing that Labour MPs were encouraged to vote against the early recess for Parliament, she decided to abandon the plan in order to not face another defeat.
