Officers in police chases to be ‘better protected’ under new legislation

The Government has published new proposals to see police officers involved in high-speed chases to be better protected from prosecution.

In recent years, police officers have been less keen to get involved in high-speed chases for the fear that they could face prosecution.

Under new proposals, police officer’s high levels of training will be recognised and police officers will be able to pursue riders of mopeds even if the riders are not wearing helmets.

The new proposals come after ministers launched a review into legislation surrounding police pursuits last September.
