A 6.2% increase in the UK’s National Living Wage comes into effect today, while the National Minimum Wage has also increased.
The increases were announced on New Year’s Eve just before the start of 2020. Speaking at the time, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said,
“For too long, people haven’t seen the pay rises they deserve.”
From 1 April, the new rates are as follows;

25+ (National Living Wage) | £8.72 | 6.2% |
21-24 | £8.20 | 6.5% |
18-20 | £6.45 | 4.9% |
Under 18s | £4.55 | 4.6% |
Apprentices | £4.15 | 6.4% |
