Kate Green has been appointed as the new Shadow Education Secretary.
Sir Keir Starmer appointed the MP for Stretford and Urmston to the Shadow Cabinet on Saturday after he sacked Rebecca Long-Bailey earlier this week.
Ms Long-Bailey was sacked after sharing an article containing an “anti-Semitic conspiracy theory”. Since becoming Labour leader in April this year, Sir Keir has worked to improve relations between the party and the Jewish community. The sacking of Long-Bailey was welcomed by the Board of Deputies of British Jews.
Kate Green has been a Labour MP since 2010 and has campaigned against educational inequalities.
In a tweet on Saturday evening, Ms Green said she was “proud and excited” to be taking on the role of Shadow Education Secretary.
