UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is set to deliver a news conference around 4pm this afternoon, following reports that government ministers are considering introducing a new national lockdown in England.
Reports emerged on Friday evening claiming that a new national lockdown was under consideration by the Prime Minister and his senior cabinet colleagues. The reports had suggested that a new national lockdown could be imposed as early as Wednesday.
Mr Johnson is expected to be joined by Chief Scientific Adviser Sir Patrick Vallance and Chief Medical Officer Professor Chris Whitty at the news conference.
Ahead of the news conference, a cabinet meeting is expected to be held at 13:30 to discuss the government’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
