Anti-abortion campaigners have conceded defeat after exit polls showed a landslide victory for the ‘yes’ vote in the Irish abortion referendum.
It is thought changes to legislation will happen quickly, with two-thirds of voters wanting to liberalise the strict laws on abortion in Ireland.
Two exit polls on behalf of the country’s national broadcaster RTE and the Irish Times both predicted a landslide before the final result.
