The Labour Party could face a formal investigation from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission over anti-semitism within their party.
According to the watchdog, the party may have unlawfully discriminated against Jewish people. The news come amidst more claims over anti-semitism within the Labour Party in recent weeks and complaints from a number of organisations and individuals, including the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism.
A spokesperson for the EHRC said “Having received a number of complaints regarding anti-Semitism in the Labour Party, we believe Labour may have unlawfully discriminated against people because of their ethnicity and religious beliefs.”
The commission has written to the Labour Party, which has 14 days to respond. Depending on the response, the commission may seek to come to an agreement with the Labour Party, or they may launch a full investigation.
The Labour Party has said “We completely reject any suggestion the party has acted unlawfully and will be co-operating fully with the EHRC.”
