Italy has been without a Government since the 4 March when voters flocked to anti-establishment and far-right parties in their elections.
Carlo Cottarelli, a former International Monetary Fund official, has been asked to be Italy’s new prime minister by President Sergio Mattarella.
Mr Cottarelli has been given a mandate to form a new Government. It comes after Italian prime minister-designate Giuseppe Conte failed to form the country’s first populist government and gave up his candidacy on Sunday.
