Health Secretary Matt Hancock self-isolating

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced he is self-isolating after being alerted by the NHS COVID-19 app.

In a video posted to Twitter on Tuesday morning, Mr Hancock said he would be self-isolating at home for the next six days. In the tweet, the Health Secretary said;

Last night I was alerted by the @NHSCOVID19app to self isolate so I’ll be staying at home & not leaving at all until Sunday. We all have a part to play in getting this virus under control.”

A feature of the NHS COVID-19 app alerts people if they may be a close contact to someone who has tested positive for the virus.

Mr Hancock presented a Coronavirus press conference from Downing Street on Monday evening alongside Public Health England’s Dr Susan Hopkins and NHS England’s Professor Stephen Powis.

During the press conference, he urged members of the public to stick to Coronavirus rules as the UK’s vaccination programme continues to be ramped up. Cases of COVID-19 have been falling gradually across the country recently, however, deaths and hospital admissions remain high.

On Monday, a further 599 deaths within 28 days of a positive Coronavirus test were reported in the UK, while a further 37,535 cases of the virus were also reported.
