Johnson talks Peppa Pig in CBI Conference speech

Political and business leaders gave speeches today at the CBI's Annual Conference, though one in particular was rather unconventional.

The first day of the Confederation of British Industry conference, which took place online, saw talks from business leaders and also political leaders including Labour Leader Sir Keir Starmer and Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

In his speech, Mr Johnson discussed his plans to support businesses in going greener in the future - though it was other parts of his speech that caught the headlines and caused huge social media discussion.

Talking about the 'power of UK creativity, Mr Johnson asked business leaders if they had been to Peppa Pig World, an attraction in Hampshire. The Prime Minister went on to recap his visit to the attraction at the weekend, saying "Peppa Pig World is very much my kind of place".

Mr Johnson's speech also saw him deliver an impression of a car, halt his speech for over 20 seconds while shuffling his papers, and quote Lenin.

The Leader of the Liberal Democrats Ed Davey said that the speech was "a perfect metaphor for Johnson's chaotic, incompetent government", while Labour described it as "shambolic".

Following his speech, Mr Johnson said he thought that people had "got the vast majority of the points".

Sir Keir Starmer's speech at the conference saw him blame the issues faced by businesses and the economy on the government's handling of Brexit, though said Labour would not seek to rejoin the union under his leadership.
